And sometimes, a nap is too much.
Ellie's at the age where she doesn't nap every day. Which is good and bad. She still needs a nap. But then on the days she does take one, if it lasts longer than an hour or so, she's wired at bed time. On the plus side, when she's up while Campbell's down, we get some time together one on one. That makes it easier to do a craft project or play with her Thomas trains.
Campbell? She's still good for 1.5-2.5 hour nap in the afternoon. She can go without one if we keep her active but we try not to do that to her too often.

Ugh. The dreaded nap situation. Cut it out altogether, fight it come hell or high water, make it quiet time...decisions.
My kids have inherited Matt's sleep habits. They both need about 14-15hours of sleep a day. Olivia cannot function with less (she just spends the whole afternoon crying and whining no matter what we do to distract her).
So, I really have a hard time seeing the other end of the spectrum. Matt's mother told me that out of her 15 or so preschoolers aged 3-4.5, usually all but about two nap for an hour. As in, really sleep. She says that most asked to go to sleep and the couple that don't fall asleep, will lay down and read...So, maybe it's a stage Ellie is going through? Could you do what Brenda did (she posted a comment on my last post) and use a timer? Like a kitchen timer or alarm clock (you could have soft music come on) for an hour and explain that she has to stay in her room for one hour. Give her a doll and a couple books and if she falls asleep, great, if not, she's rested for an hour, you get some quiet time and then when she's up, you can play while Campbell finishes her nap. That would also be great way of timing her nap so that she doesn't sleep past an hour and make bedtime crazy. I don't know. Just throwing it out there. Like I said, I'm really not in a position to give out advice.
How's the potty training going? We still have occasional accidents. They usually revolve around changes in the home. As in a few accidents when my parents first arrived and then a couple more when Matt left for sea, etc. Other than that, she's trained through the night and nap and has gone a week or more w/o an accident. But, it's still a pain. Sometimes I forget to ask her after she's taken a long nap or slept 12 hours straight and she won't make it to the bathroom on her own. Or, she'll have an accident b/c she doesn't leave her room when she wakes up w/o me coming in to get her. So, if I don't get up there quickly or don't hear her asking to go pee, I'm in trouble. Ugh. I've been told they have accidents until four, five years old. Ugh!
